SUPPORT MASSIMO PHILLIPY'S FIGHT
ALD is a rare disease known as Adrenoleukodystrophy. It is a nuero-degenerative disease that affects one in 20,000 children in the United States. Massimo is a 2nd grader and up until about to the end of September was attending Our Lady of Grace in Fairview, NJ. My son attends this school as well and the school has been putting on various fundraisers to help alleviate some of the family's financial burden. I, from my experience, know how your life can change in one day once you are diagnosed with any life threatening disease, let alone a rare disease. For one, you can't understand why this would happened to you. Is there really a God? What did you do to deserve this? These were some of my first questions when my daughter was first diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2003 and then five years later, in 2008, when I myself was diagnosed with breast cancer.
However, in this case this is a seven year old child. His chances of survival are not as great as someone diagnosed with MS or someone diagnosed with breast cancer. The Sister Study is the only long-term study of women aged 35-74 whose sister had breast cancer. It is a national study to learn how environment and genes affect the chances of getting breast cancer. A total of 50,000 women will join the effort to find the causes of breast cancer. The Two Sister Study for Breast Cancer Research is on the way!

On August 28, 2008, I participated in a Kaboom. I help build a playground for the Little Sun People Too Community Center located in Brooklyn, NY. I helped shovel 70,000 cubic feet of mulch! Adopt-A-Classroom invites the community into the classroom in support of teachers and their students. By adopting a classroom, donors form partnerships with specific classrooms providing financial and moral support. In 2006, I raised monies and collected supplies from my co-workers at JP Morgan Chase for the Pre-K class at Dr Charles P Defuccio 39 school in Jersey City, NJ. This year I would like to continue with this tradition and continue to raise funds and adopt this Pre-k class every school year. SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is the name given to a mysterious baby killer that takes the lives of between 2000 and 3000 infants each year in the US. Since 2007, I have walked for a world free of MS. There are approximately 400,000 people with 200 more people diagnosed every week. MS is thought to affect 2.5 million people and MS is significantly more common (at least 2-3 times) in women then men. Next year, the MS Walk will be on April 19, 2009.
